The Swedish flat-pack furniture chain is any new homeowner’s best friend. It offers affordable furniture and daily-use items at its three convenient island-wide locations for easy access to all your home furnishing needs.

Through its 80 year history, the brand has perfected its shopping experience, and is now synonymous with quality products at wallet-friendly prices. Whilst their products are generally very functional, not all items are created equal. Here are our 5 picks for the most value for money items you can purchase at IKEA! The list is in no particular order.

IKEA Detolf – $99

Clear crystal tempered glass, powercoated steel frame and stylish minimalistic looks – the IKEA Detolf perfectly sums up what makes IKEA so brilliant as a brand in the first place. It creates a safe space to display your precious collectibles, and also serves to liven up any room you decide to place it in.

Collectible owners swear by this display shelf, so you can trust that it is of good quality! And best of all, it is no costlier than alternatives from less reputable sources, so why wouldn’t you buy your display case from IKEA?

IKEA Solhetta GU10 Bulbs – $6.90 for 3 Pieces

Bulbs? From IKEA? I wasn’t a believer too, until I decided to try their offerings out for myself. These bulbs output 345 lumens each, and can really deliver a visual punch when you fit a row of them to your track or spotlights.

I’ve had 8 of these bulbs in my home office, and they are still going strong even after three years, with no signs of dimming or flickering. In essence, they’ve costed me $2.30 each, for a third of a decade and counting. A true bargain!

IKEA Hejne – $102.50

Are you looking for a highly durable, yet effortlessly stylish storage solution? Whilst IKEA has many answers to your needs, the IKEA Hejne is perhaps the most versatile solution of the lot. And possibly the most durable too.

It is made out of solid pine, with a galvanised steel cross brace for additional rigidity. This allows you to stain the shelf in any hue you so choose to, or leave it raw and exposed for a more natural look. The wood construction will also allow you to drive screws into the structure as needed to create attachment points for all your storage needs!

IKEA Kallax 4×1 – $99

IKEA’s Kallax is highly versatile and greatly customisable. It has formed the basis of many IKEA hack projects, and no wonder too. The simple rectangular form factor and the robust frame is sturdy enough to take some serious weight.

Mount it on the wall underneath your TV for it to serve as your TV console. Or stand it up vertically to create a standing shelf. The possibilites are literally endless! And being a favourite amongst the IKEA modders, there are many third-party options to further tweak the Kallax too!

IKEA BEKVÄM – $79

Do you need a stool that can do double duty as a step ladder? Whilst more affordable options are available from other sources, no other mass-market item is as sturdy and durable as IKEA’s BEKVÄM.

Its solid wood construction isn’t the only thing it has going for it. The durable folding mechanism also allows you to neatly stow the item away when not in use, and even makes for a pop of texture when it is hung on a wall!

Practical Furniture Recommendations

I want to make something clear – this is not a sponsored post. Rather, it has come about as a result of people asking me, repeatedly but seperately, about the best buys they can get at IKEA. The recommendations here are gathered from past clients, and I haven’t heard anything bad about these items from the people who actually bought and lived with the items!
