Moving can be a stressful process. You have to worry about the packing and unpacking process. The movers may also damage your precious items during the actual move.

Successfully moving in is just one part of the process. Turning a house into a home also involves ensuring you have all the creature comforts that you want/need. Reduce your stress and have these essential household items on hand – here is our list of 5!

AA and AAA Batteries

Ensure you have at least four of each at the very minimum. Most electronics will come with their own batteries. In the rare chance it doesn’t, having a set on hand saves you having to make another trip to the hardware store.

Cable Organisers/Ties

These will allow you to neatly run the cables for your electronics. The more compact your wires are, the less dust they’d trap down the line. It’s wise to do it just once, and well!

Adhesive Strips/Blutack

You can use these to hand your paintings, notes and anything else that needs to be semi-permanently affixed to your walls. It may be wise to buy ones that do not leave residue, or damage your walls!

Moisture Absorber

Keep your shoes and bags in mint condition by ensuring excess moisture is absorbed. By reducing the humidity in your cabinets, the conditions are less ideal for the formation of mould. Your cabinets will also smell less musty as a result!

Cleaning Wipes

You’d be battling dust and debris for weeks after moving in. Fine particles in the air from your renovation, as well as dust and grime from your boxes, will find their way everywhere. Manage the situation by using cleaning wipes to mop up any particles as they settle!

The Bare Essentials

There are many other things you’ll eventually need. Proper cleaning supplies (think mop, pail, etc) should be at the top of your priority list.

But if you are eager to just move in after the professional cleaners have done their job, these five must-have household items will get you by just fine. As you continue to settle in, you can slowly purchase every little item needed for daily life!
