Are you in the market for an affordable BMW? You’re in luck, because there are now two new models for you to choose from.

The all-electric iX1 joins the bigger iX3 and iX in the electric BMW SUV line-up. Just like the former, it isn’t built on a dedicated, ground-up platform. Rather, it is based on the BMW UKL2 platform which also underpins the regular ICE X1.

Unlike many of the global iX1 models, Singapore received a Category A COE-compliant eDrive20 model. This variant packs a 64.8 kWh battery pack, which sends its power to a detuned, front-mounted electric motor. The car is good for a range of 474 kilometres, and can DC charge at a maximum rate of 130 kW.

If you still have a preference for ICE cars, the BMW X2 would perhaps be more suitable for you if you were shopping for cars in its class. The car shares many mechanical and structural components with the X1.

Under the bonnet resides a 1.5 litre turbocharged three cylinder engine, that outputs 121 bhp. The X2 has a 0-100 km/h time of 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 197 km/h. BMW quotes a fuel efficiency figure of 14.7 km/l.

The iX1 will set you back $240,888, and the X2 will cost you $233,888. Both prices are inclusive of COE at the time of publication.
