Focus on “Considerate” – that’s the keyword, and the overall theme, for this HDB 4 Room Resale’s makeover. There were lofty goals to meet, a challenge made more difficult on the shoestring budget that had to be strictly adhered to.

This was achieved by employing a bold choice of colour throughout the entire interior space. For the most part, every surface in this apartment has been treated to a shade of grey. Also , cabinetry and flooring are all also finished in various wood-effect materials, only broken up by the occasional accent furniture.

To really make the look work, a lot of attention has had to be paid to the interior lighting. The current owner opted to preserve most of the previous owner’s original lights, which also made this task incredibly challenging. The solution was to fit track and spot lights wherever possible, with the IDs then fine tuning the lights to create the desired ambience.
The owner also required RE.design to carve out a space for his home-based business. This layout had some additional space, designated as the dining room, which was then partitioned off for that very purpose. Some privacy glass sliding doors completed the space.

A walk-in wardrobe was also included in this renovation. Where the owner wanted their dressing table was where you’d access the aircon ledge. A lot of brainstorming yielded the final outcome. The walls surrounding the window aperture would be boxed up to hide the frame of the mirror and all the wires behind it. The mirror itself would then be hinged, and the bottom table made mobile. It’s all still custom carpentry, but everything is removable should there be a need for aircon maintenance.

And despite the stringent spending, the master bathroom, owing to the selecting and combination of the tiles, manages to look properly high-end (if you ignore the exposed white PVC pipe – the decision was made to not conceal the pipes in the walls), seemingly without much compromise.
