LYL International Karting Circuit is Asia’s longest. At 1.5 kilometres in length, it feels less like a conventional rental kart track, and more like a scaled-down version of a full-blown race track.

And that statement technically isn’t even all that wrong – LYL now regularly holds a whole host of organised kart races, the most recent being the inaugural FIA Karting ‘Arrive and Drive’ World Cup.

Plenty of photo ops on the way into LYL International Karting Circuit

But is the experience really worth the drive over? And what are some things you should look out for?

First Impressions

Being a fairly new facility, everything appears to be in good order. The paddock building still looks fresh, and so too is the overall condition of the circuit.

The tarmac is smooth, and grip levels in the dry appear to be fairly consistent through the track. Situated in a purpose-built resort, there’s also no shortage of space in the landscape – the track looks and feels very airy as a result.

General Track Overview

The track is very wide, meaning there’ll be plenty of opportunities for some wheel-to-wheel action. This also means everyone will have a slightly different interpretation of what the ideal line is through each sequence of corner, again making it great for some close battles.

One session simply isn’t enough here – you’ll need at least two to properly have a representative time. And that’s partially due to the track’s length, meaning you only get around eight tries to set a flying lap.

Our On-Track Experience

The lap opens with a flat-out sequence of corners, that continues to tighten as you approach a wide hairpin. From here, you will face a series of slower, tighter corners, which then feeds into a hairpin that then leads into two left handers in quick succession.

The second hairpin before the back straight. Our first lap ever on the track, and it was wet.

Carrying a good bit of momentum is crucial here, as these corners lead you to a fairly long straight. Another wide hairpin awaits you at the end of this section. Use a quick stab of the brakes to rotate the kart – a bit of sliding here gains you quite a fair bit of lap time.

From here on in, you’ll keep the throttle pinned, right up till the section underneath the flyover. A small lift appears to help with getting the kart turned – you can get straight back on the throttle once you feel the grip reappear.

The section of track that takes you right under the bridge!

Prepare to brake earlier than expected on the down-ramp, as gravity works against the rate of deceleration. A long right hander then takes you to the start-finish straight to complete a lap at LYL Intertional Karting Circuit.

F&B and Accomodations

As mentioned above, LYL International Circuit is situated in Monkeys Canopy Resort. As its name suggests, it is a full-blown resort that comes with other activities such as an indoor extreme theme park, a water park and even pickleball. It also comes with a whole host of F&B options, though they don’t appear to stay open for very long past dinner.

We haven’t had the chance to try out their room service, as we’ve basically only used Grab the last few times we were at the resort. The rooms themselves are modern and very clean, and are well worth what the resort is charging.

You can check out the full list of facilities and room rates on their website right here!

Overall Verdict

It may be some 30 kilometres away from KLCC, but it is well worth the detour. Do note that there are no on-site EV chargers, so if you are coming straight up from Singapore, you may want to consider stopped by R&R Senawang Layby NB for a charge stop before making the trek in!
