Buyers looking for luxury-centric MPVs now have two additional options to choose from. And they have ‘new’ Chinese brand Denza to thank.
The aforementioned ‘new’ entrant isn’t actually all that new. Essentially, Denza is basically BYD’s Lexus – a sub-brand that specialises in the creation of more luxurious and higher-end offerings. Denza started out in life as a joint-venture between Mercedes and BYD, though it has been wholly owned by the Chinese since earlier this year.

The brand has now officially debuted in Singapore, though this isn’t the first time that their D9 has been showcased locally – a LHD unit was displayed at a roadshow earlier in the year. The cars bound for Singapore will be manufactured with two specifications in mind.
The D9 ‘Elite’ will have a front-mounted 308 bhp electric motor, and a range of 520 kilometres. It will have a price tag that is just south of $300,000 at current COE prices. Buyers seeking more power can purchase the D9 ‘Grandeur’, which has a pair of electric motors that produce a combined 369 bhp.

As both cars have the same 103 kWh battery pack, the latter takes a hit on the range front, being able to cover only 480 kilometres on a single charge – a trade-off for the additional power.
There’s no question on the cars Denza had in mind as benchmarks when they were penning the D9 cars. And these design decisions are made even more obvious when you pop its massive sliding doors open.

Middle row occupants are treated to a pair of 10-way electrically-adjustable seats. Each passenger here will be able to toggle the ambient lighting and air conditioning to their heart’s content, as they each have their own control panel.
Interested buyers can check out the Denza D9 at the Harmony Auto road show at ION Orchard. The D9 will be on display at the level 1 Atrium, and the event will run from the 10th to the 19th of October. You can also view the car at Sime Darby’s DENZA showroom at Alexandra.

But for those who still want to see the car before deciding on a purchase, the electric MPV will be available for the public to view at the level 1 Atrium at ION Orchard from 10 to 19 October 2024, as well as at the Sime Darby DENZA Showroom at 305 Alexandra Road.
