Planning a short getaway over a long weekend? Your itinerary should be at the top of your priority list. You shouldn’t have to worry about securing a dependable and reasonably-priced rental car.

We aren’t suggesting that you neglect your choice of wheels for your road trip. Rather, it shouldn’t be rocket science to secure a reliable and well-maintained vehicle. And it shouldn’t cost you an arm or a leg too.

But finding a reputable short-term car rental company isn’t as straightforward as it seems. A quick online search will yield results from hundreds of different companies, all offering cars at vastly different price points.

So how can you accurately shortlist the car rental firm to guarantee a pleasant overall experience?

Check Online Reviews

The simplest way to ensure the company you intend to rent from is legitimate is by checking its reviews online. A quick Google search should be sufficient to paint a representative picture of how it’d be like being their customer.

Crucially, make sure no one has had any negative experience with their fleet, as the last thing you’d want is to be stranded in a foreign country. Ensure also that the company provides sufficient breakdown support and coverage even overseas, so in the event you do suffer from a breakdown, you’d at the very least not have a completely ruined holiday.

Read the Fine Print

You may want to also make sure that the rentals are legitimate. There should be sufficient insurance coverage, so you’re not implicated in complex lawsuits should things go awry.

The agreements should clearly state the duration of the rental, as well as the total cost of it. Do note that there are companies that have attractively low daily rental rates, but require you to rent for a minimum number of days, which may end up costing you more than a firm with no such requirement.

Thoroughly go Over the Vehicle

When collecting the car, take extra care in making a note of all the damages on the vehicle. Take clear photos and keep them on file even after the trip so you’d be covered in the event of a dispute.

There are rental companies that use cars at the end of their COE cycle. If the company you have chosen have these vehicles in their fleet, make sure that the cars are sound mechanically (no unusual leaks or noises) before driving off in them – again, you do not want to be stranded in a foreign land!

Skip the Hassle, Rent with myCarriage

Alternatively, you can choose to rent a vehicle from a brand affiliated with one of the largest car dealer networks in Singapore. Cycle and Carriage Leasing, through its myCarriage division, provides short-term rental services.

Their fleet consists largely of new or nearly-new cars, which have been religiously serviced and maintained. Also, myCarriage does not artificially inflate the prices of their service during peak periods, something many other rental companies do.

Customers can choose to pick up their cars from either the Pandan Garden or Changi Airport locations, or even opt for a car to be dropped off at a place of your convenience. Cycle and Carriage Leasing also offers long-term rental solutions, and customers can even request for brand new vehicles!

A wide selection of vehicles are on offer, including marques not carried by Cycle and Carriage. Need a short term rental car? Check out myCarriage here!
