The Swedes have added an additional crossover to their local line-up. Dubbed the EX30, it’ll be the second electric-only model after the C40 that was launched back in 2022.

This is the smallest Volvo manufactured to date, and will slot below the XC40/C40 in the model range. It has been built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture 2 (SEA2) platform, which explains why it has the smallest lifetime carbon footprint of any Volvo model to date.

The EX30 has a body that contains significant percentages of recycled materials, including 25% aluminium, 17% steel and 17%  plastic. Expect a wide array of powertrain and range options to be available, as is the case with the current Volvo and sister company Polestar’s offerings.

Globally, the de facto base car comes equipped with a 51 kWh LFP battery, and a 272 hp, rear-mounted electric motor. This will be good for a range of 344 kilometres. A long range version of this car should also be available, fitted with the same motor but with a larger 69 kWh NMC battery. Volvo estimates this variant would do 480 kilometres on a single charge.

A hotter, dual motor variant should also be available, with 428 combined horsepowers. However, you do pay a range penalty for the added performance, with this model only able to achieve 460 kilometres.

No pricing has been announced just yet, but the final car specifications and pricing should be released in the coming months!
