Car buyers shopping for an electric MPV now have an additional option to choose from. The new M6 joins three other currently available BYD models on offer, including the Dolphin, Seal and the Atto 3.

There’s no denying that the M6 bears a striking resemblance to the now-sold-out e6. And that’s because they are based on the same basic car, called the BYD Song Max in its native China. The current iteration of the car was first showcased earlier this year at the Bangkok International Motor Show, where BYD unveiled its latest facelift.

This refresh adds a new front and rear fascia to the car, bringing it visually closer to the rest of the current BYD line-up.

The M6 is a proper seven-seater, and now comes with a 60:40 split folding second row. Third row seats can also be folded should you require more cargo space, with BYD claiming capacity gets a 400-litre bump with the third row flat (You only have 180 litres with all three rows up).

Powering the M6 is a 134 bhp front-mounted electric motor, which is coupled with a 71.8 kWh battery pack. Expect it to be able to cover 440 kilometres on a single charge, with an average consumption rating of about 5.34 km/kWh.

All BYD M6 cars will come with a comprehensive six-year vehicle warranty, with your battery being warrantied up to 10 years. Owners will also get to enjoy 10 years’ worth of free servicing. The M6 starts a $169,888 (with non-guaranteed COE).
