Not all HDB car parks are created equal. And you’d want to pay attention to which car parks you park at, as there can literally be a financial incentive to do so.

HDB rolled out the Free Parking Scheme several years back in a bid to “promote social interaction and stronger family ties”. Under this programme, drivers can park, at no cost, at select HDB car parks on Sundays and Public Holidays, from 7.00am to 10.30pm.

You can identify these car parks through the orange sign plate installed on the main sign board. Areas that are not designated for this scheme will have a red sign plate affixed instead.

Notable Free Car Parks

Take advantage of this scheme and save a fair chunk of change when visiting popular hotspots across the island. And it makes sense to do so, since some of these car parks really aren’t that far away from in-demand amenities. Here are three!

Block 31 HDB Kelantan (Multi-Storey Car Park)

This MSCP is on the fringes of the Bugis district. The two Bugis malls (Bugis+ and Bugis Junction) are about a 13 minute walk from this car park. Parking rates across the two malls are very similar, costing $2.20 for the first hour during weekday off-peak periods.

Block 101/109 HDB Bukit Purmei (Surface Car Park)

Heading to Sentosa for a weekend of fun? Park here and hop on Service 123 to enter the island. You’ll save $6 on the entry fee, and a further $1.20 per hour for parking at most Sentosa car parks.

Tanjong Pagar Mall (Multi-Storey Car Park)
